Sept 7-12, 2006
American Association of Medical Assistants 2006 50th Anniversary
Convention, Milwaukee Wisconsin.
Jean Dennerll
This unique conference afforded the
opportunity to meet with medical assistant educators and practitioners
from all over the U.S. It is the only national meeting of MA educators
and many of the workshops attended were specifically focused on medical
assistant competency based education and its implementation. One of the
most fun workshops was "Use of films and television shows in the
classroom". We viewed excerpts from "House", "Patch Adams", " The
Closer" and other shows illustrating medico legal and bioethical
dilemmas as well as "ER" used to teach use of medical terminology. I
also attended a Surveyor Training to become a surveyor for the
AAMAE/CAAHEP accrediting body. I am soon to be scheduled to for my
first site visit survey. Surveying will provide me with the opportunity
to visit other medical assistant programs in the U.S. and learn from
their design.
Overall this is an extremely valuable
conference for me and one which I should attend yearly.
