 Q & A's

If you have been nominated for one of our Outstanding Student Awards, congratulations!  Most students have many questions.  If we haven't answered them here, please feel free to contact Karen Marler at marlerkarenl@jccmi.edu or the person who may be noted in your invitation.
 

When is the 2009 Awards Ceremony? The 2010 Student Excellence Award night  will be held in the Harold Sheffer Music Hall in the George E. Potter Center  at 6:00 p.m.

Please arrive 20 minutes early so we can get you seated before the ceremony begins.
 

When will I receive my invitation? Your invitation will be mailed in mid to late April.
 
Why was I nominated? Students are being recognized from several areas  Your invitation will state which award you are receiving.
 
Who can I bring with me? You may bring as many guests as you like. 
 
Where do I go? Go to the second floor of the George E. Potter Center - Music Hall.  At that time you will be separated from your guests and seated in the front rows of the Theatre.
 
Is the Theatre handicap accessible? Yes. Call us in advance for directions on where to go if you are receiving an award.  Guests may take the elevator to the second floor and we will seat them.
 
What should I wear? You will be standing in front of a large crowd.  Wear whatever you will be comfortable in. Most people wear casual dress.
 
Where do I pick up my certificate? Certificates are available in the lobby and may be picked up before or after the ceremony.
 
What is included at the reception? The reception will have light refreshments. RSVP's are appreciated so we can get a good food count.
 
What if I can't make it to the ceremony? If you are unable to attend, your certificate will be mailed to the address we have on file for you.  Please be sure to check and make sure it's correct.

George E. Potter Outstanding Student Award -  Nominations are accepted from Students, staff or faculty.  Winner receives a $1000. scholarship.

Concentrations

Excellence in Learning - Students who demonstrate uncommon initiative, commitment, enthusiasm, or performance in the pursuit of learning are eligible for this award. Although this is not strictly an academic award, students who show exceptional ability in one course/discipline (but may be average in other areas) are certainly eligible, as are students who are committed to learning but who transcripts may not reveal their dedication.”

Harriet R. Stolorow Creative Writing Awards
Information Technology Excellence in Teamwork Award  

Once each Fall and Winter semester an Information Technology Computer Consultant is selected to receive the Excellence in Teamwork (Obi-Wan Kenobi) Award.  The selection committee consists of InfoTech Staff members.  Nominations are submitted by InfoTech Computer Consultants.

The purpose of this award is to recognize the noble qualities that the nominee shares with Obi-Wan.

Obi-Wan trained others to be successful Jedi Knights (consultants).  The qualities he exhibited in doing this are:

 §   Dedication

§   Giving of oneself to help one other person

§   Patience

§   Insight concerning the needs of others

§   Wisdom (understanding that transcends the boundary of self)

§   Knowledge sharing

§   Right as paramount to all other

§   Ability to see things before they happen

§   Resourcefulness

§   Quick critical thinking
