Steve Finamore
Steve Finamore was officially hired as the new men's basketball coach at Jackson Community College on November 3rd, 2006.
Before coming to JCC Finamore worked as an assistant basketball coach at St. Peter’s College under Bob Leckie in Jersey City, N.J. In 2005-2006 the Peacocks made it to the MAAC championship game before losing to Iona College. He spent three years as a student assistant coach under Tom Izzo at Michigan State University, and also served as head coach one year at Portland High School in Portland, Mich. Finamore has also coached Brooklyn USA AAU basketball club in Brooklyn, New York.
"I'm looking forward to building a program here at JCC" Finamore said. "I feel the administration has put in place the necessary resources to compete in the MCCAA."
Finamore's game plan is simple: Play hard, play smart, share the ball and not worry about who gets the credit. "You have to play the game the right way. That means being unselfish with the ball, defending, and playing with energy."
MSU Coach Tom Izzo said: "I am very excited for Steve. He helped us win a national championship when he was here. You won't find a more dedicated and hard-working person. He is also very personable and develops strong relationships with student-athletes. He will be a good addition to Jackson Community College."
Finamore is a well-known Skill Instruction coach around the country. He has trained many college and professional players over the past 20 years. Included in Finamore's coaching journey are stops at many college summer camps over the years which includes the Nike All-American camp, and Five-Star basketball camp.
"I love working with players on their fundamentals." Finamore said. "I feel a lot of players crave instruction and need to work on their skill development and as a coach, it's my job to make sure that my players get the best training. I have been fortunate to spend a lot of time with some very good coaches over the years learning what works and what doesn't with players."
Finamore holds a bachelor's degree from Central Michigan University, majoring in sports studies and currently resides in East Lansing with his wife, Mary Hogan, and 8-year-old daughter, Taylor.
