Library Research Databases

JCC students have access to a wide array of research databases through the Internet. These databases contain journal article citations and, in many cases, the full-text of articles. Some contain additional materials, such as book excerpts and newspaper articles. To access these resources, visit the Library website.

  • From the website main menu, select Research Databases.
  • Passwords are required when using the databases off-campus. These can be obtained by visiting or emailing the Library, or by calling the Reference Desk, 517-787-0800 x8264.
  • Below is a listing of the individual databases with a description of their contents. For additional information or assistance, please contact a Reference Librarian

This database - one of the FirstSearch set - contains full-text articles in science, humanities, education and business. It is a great place to start researching as it covers a broad range of topics. WilsonSelect is one of many databases available in FirstSearch. Others include ERIC for teacher education, Medline for medical topics, and WorldCat for books and audio/video material.

InfoTrac

Select InfoTrac OneFile for scholarly, academic research in the social sciences and humanities. For health related research, select Health Reference Center Academic.

General Reference Center Gold is another option which is also academic in nature. Scroll through the list of available databases for one that most closely matches your needs.

ProQuest

ProQuest online information service provides access to thousands of current periodicals and newspapers, many updated daily and containing full-text articles from 1986. Deep backfiles of archival material are also expanding daily as 5.5 billion pages are being digitized from their microfilm collection.

Databases include Nursing and Criminal Justice.

NetLibrary

NetLibrary — An e-book system, NetLibrary provides access to a collection of e-Books and digital versions of print books. Off-campus use requires registration. Contact a Reference Librarian for more information.
