High school students, get your act together for theatre competition!

Jackson Community College, with the support of local theatre groups, Center Stage Jackson and Left of Center, will host a one-act play competition for high schools in March of 2007.

“We want to provide performance and technical theatre opportunities for high school students and highlight theatrical talents at local schools,” said Sandy DiCesare, coordinator of educational theatre at JCC. Organizers hope the competition will provide healthy and creative competition, foster team work, and promote theatrical opportunities at JCC and in the community.

The event is open to all high schools in Jackson County, but participation is limited to the first six schools that apply. Student casts of two to five players should select a one-act play that is 10 to 15 minutes long and appropriate for general audiences. A crew consisting of student technical director, student stage manager and one student crew member required. Entry fee is $45.

Awards will be presented for first, second and third place in Best Actor and Best Actress categories, Best Technical Director, Best Stage Manager and Best Crew. A trophy will be awarded for Best Overall Performance, and scholarships will be given for each student in the Best Overall Performance, up to eight. All schools and participating students will receive a Certificate of Participation.

Applications are due by Dec. 1, 2006. For complete information, contact Sandy DiCesare at 517.796.8625.
