November 2nd, 2006 For immediate release JCC cross country runner Jessica Olds qualifies for national meet
Jackson Community College cross country runner Jessica Olds, a sophomore, will travel to El Paso, Texas this coming weekend to compete in the National Division I National Junior College Athletic Association Championship. Olds finished the Jets’ initial season with a ninth place ranking in the state, earning an 11th place at the Region XII event Oct. 21 in Lansing. The top 10 overall ranking qualifies her for the national NJCAA championship. “As the season progressed, I could see that Jessie (Olds) had the potential to make it to the championship,” said Coach Brian Olsen. “I’m very pleased for her.” Olsen will travel to El Paso with Olds, who is JCC’s first runner since 1980 to participate in the national event. During that year, Olsen himself led the Jets to a Region XII Championship and later went on to place second at the national event. “We are very proud of her,” said JCC Athletic Director Steve Bloomfield. “This is very exciting for us since this is our first season. We wish her the best at nationals.” |
