May 7th, 2007 For immediate release JCC hosts commencement activities WednesdayJackson Community College will host commencement exercises at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, in the Harold Sheffer Music Hall, Potter Center. Keynote speaker for the event will be JCC Trustee Emeritus Dr. George E. Potter. Potter, an alumnus of Jackson Junior College and a local attorney, retired in 2006 after serving 44 years on the Board of Trustees. He will also receive the Distinguished Service Award presented by the College. David S. Richmond, chairman of Richmond Brothers Financial Management Specialists in Jackson, will receive the Dr. Ethelene Jones Crockett Distinguished Alumni Award. As co-founder of the Richmond Brothers Foundation, his generosity has benefited numerous organizations, including St. Mary’s Childcare and Development Center, Queen of the Miraculous Medal School, Lumen Christi High School, New City Resources, Jackson Community College, the American Cancer Society and The Lingap Foundation, which supports an orphanage and educational opportunities in the Philippines. Student Parliament President James M. Emerson will speak, as will Ashley N. Brayley, representative of the 2007 graduating class. Potter will present the first annual George E. Potter Outstanding Student Award to Patricia Kelley Emerson, who was recently named to the USA Today All-USA Academic First Team for two-year colleges and is the New Century Scholar for Michigan. Also participating in the ceremony will be the Jackson Community Concert Band and JCC Concert Choir. Admission is by ticket only. Overflow seating will be available in the Michael Baughman Theatre. |
