GED Tests to be offered at Michigan Works! Jackson site

Jackson Community College will begin offering the GED Tests in July for adults who have not graduated from high school.

Tests will be administered on two alternate Fridays in July, July 13 & 27, at the South Central Michigan Works! office, located in the Commonwealth Commerce Center, Jackson. Test-takers need to pre-register with Mary Pallesen at Michigan Works!, 517.841.5637. Test-takers must watch a video and fill out a demographic form prior to taking the tests.

The Tests of General Educational Development (GED Tests) are designed to measure the major and lasting academic outcomes that students would normally acquire by completing high school. Multiple choice tests in five subject areas are used, and each GED candidate must write a timed essay on an assigned topic in order to pass the GED. Subject areas are language arts-writing, social studies, science, language arts-reading and mathematics.

Tests for the various subject areas will be offered in morning and afternoon sessions on test days. On July 13, writing and math tests will be offered in the morning, and science, social studies and reading tests will be offered in the afternoon. Test-takers may take up to three tests in a day. The schedule will be reversed on July 27. Total cost of the GED is $125, or $25 per test. Individuals may pay as they go, and vouchers from approved programs are accepted. Test-takers should arrive between 8:30 and 8:45 a.m. on test days and must bring picture identification. Testing begins at 9 a.m.

Future test dates are:

  • Sept. 14 & 28
  • Oct. 12 & 26
  • Nov. 2 & 16
  • Dec. 7 & 14

As an incentive to continue their education, successful GED completers are eligible for a tuition voucher that is good for tuition toward a three credit hour class at JCC. For more information, contact Mary Ann Rainey, 796.8454.
