July 9th, 2007 For immediate release Outstanding employees honored at JCCJackson Community College is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2007 outstanding faculty, administrator, adjunct and staff awards. Receiving the J. Ward Preston Outstanding Faculty Award for 2006-07 was Dr. Jim Scott. Scott has taught at JCC since 1980 in the health and physical fitness department, teaching fitness courses as well as stress management and wellness. He has been recognized for outstanding teaching by Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers and has co-taught the Instructional Skills Workshop with Professor Mary Belknap, highlighting the best practices in teacher education for undergraduate and graduate education students. He received the Governor’s Award for Physical Fitness for creating an online wellness course, and is in the process of development an online stress management course. Scott has served on the original Jackson County Wellness Committee, the National Community College Wellness Conference Committee, JCC Corporate Wellness Program, and was a member of the successful 1985-86 All American City Committee for Jackson. He is married to his wife, Lisa, a teacher at Concord; they have three adult children. The Outstanding Administrator Award goes to Stephen Bloomfield, assistant dean of student life and athletic director of JCC. Bloomfield has worked for the College since 1999 in varying capacities, and has come to the forefront in JCC’s efforts to improve student life activities on campus and re-introduce intercollegiate athletics. During his years at JCC, he has worked in career development, academic advising, and most recently student life and athletics. Over the past year he has spearheaded efforts to re-introduce sports to the College, including conducting coaching searches and facilitating recruitment efforts for student athletes. He is also guiding the new residence life efforts as the College’s new Campus View student housing community prepares for students living on campus this Fall. He and his wife, Julie, have two children. JCC theatre technician and part-time educator Sandra DiCesare received the Outstanding Staff Member Award for the year. She has worked for the College for 22 years, serving in technical services for the Potter Center theaters and teaching on and off as an adjunct instructor. She’s directed student performances and been technical director for the theatre department. During her years at JCC, she has also served as advisor to the Drama Club, given tours of the Potter Center facilities, performed community outreach for theatre education, organized a high school one-act play competition earlier this year that six area high schools participated in and teaches youngsters who attend Kids College camps in the summer. She resides in Jackson with her two cats, Briscoe and Marcus. For helping students understand the mysteries of mathematics, the Outstanding Adjunct Instructor Award went to Lisa Nanni, who teaches at JCC’s Hillsdale LeTarte Center. Nanni is an electrical engineer who has taught part-time as an adjunct in Hillsdale for eight years. Several students nominated Nanni, citing her continuing efforts to help them understand mathematics both in and out of the classroom, as an excellent teacher and one who gives of her own time to tutor when needed. Nanni and her husband, Dino, live in Concord. |
