For immediate release President Phelan named a Pacesetter in marketing, public relationsJackson Community College is pleased to announce that
President Daniel J. Phelan received the 2007 Pacesetter of the
Year Award from
the National Conference for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) District 3.
The Pacesetter of the Year Award recognizes a community college president who has demonstrated special leadership and support in marketing and public relations. It is awarded annually in each of NCMPR’s seven districts, and district recipients are automatically entered in the national competition, presented at the national conference. Phelan has served as president of JCC since 2001 and is a tireless advocate in advancing the mission of the College. He is an excellent communicator who keeps lines of communication open between all segments of the College. He hosts campuswide “town hall” forums on major issues for employees, and has hosted open public forums in the community to get feedback on the College. He also established community advisory groups to solicit community opinion. He also advocated for monthly newsletters to be sent to all county residents to keep them informed of college happenings. Dr. Phelan is very involved in his community, having served with the Greater Jackson Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Jackson Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors, United Way Board of Directors, Rotary Club, St. John’s Church and the Jackson County Community Foundation Board of Directors. The National Council for Marketing and Public Relations is comprised of marketing and public relations professionals at community and technical colleges nationwide. District 3 represents members from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Ontario.
