JCC offers weekend college for working adults

Make the most of your weekends. Jackson Community College is easing the way for students hoping to go to college by starting weekend college offerings this Fall semester on the Jackson campus and online.

Weekend college is designed for prospective students with limited time available to attend class. It will enable students to attend classes Saturday and Sunday and complete a general education certificate in three semesters, complete an associate degree in two years and a semester, or going part-time, complete an associate degree in 4½ years. Classes will be offered in traditional, hybrid (combining classroom and online work) and online formats.

“We wanted to give our students who work during the week another option for taking classes,” said William Strohaver, executive vice president for education/student services.

Courses to be offered in the Fall semester are:

  • Introduction to Computer Systems, Computer Information Systems (CIS) 101, 3 credits.
  • Writing Experience, English (ENG) 131, 3 credits.
  • Cultural Anthropology, Anthropology (ANT) 131, 3 credits.
  • Understanding Music, Music (MUS) 131, 3 credits.

Courses to be offered in the Winter semester are:

  • Beginning Algebra, Math (MTH) 120, 4 credits
  • Writing Experience, English (ENG) 132, 3 credits
  • Introduction to Geology, Geology (GEL) 160, 4 credits
  • Wellness, Health and Physical Fitness (HPF) 160, 1 credit

Classes to be offered in Spring semester are:

  • Communications Fundamentals, Communications (COM) 231, 3 credits, hybrid
  • Principles of Sociology, Sociology (SOC) 231, 3 credits
