U.S. Air Force Band's Airmen of Note coming to Potter Center
Jackson Community College’s Potter Center will welcome the United States Air Force Band’s Airmen of Note in concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 20, in the Harold Sheffer Music Hall. This event is free to the public and underwritten by JCC, the Jackson Citizen Patriot, WKHM and K105.3.
The Airmen of Note is the premier jazz ensemble of the United States Air Force. Created in 1950 to carry on the tradition of Glenn Miller’s Army Air Corps dance band, the band adopted a more contemporary style under the direction of the legendary Sammy Nestico. Beginning in the ‘70s, Senior Master Sgt. Mike Crotty, the Note’s chief arranger for more than 25 years, helped elevate the band to the forefront of modern big band jazz.
The Airmen of Note is one of today’s few touring big bands. As a result, it has attracted 18 of the finest musicians in the country. Twice yearly the Note ventures throughout the United States, spreading its big band sound to communities from coast to coast.
The event is free, but tickets are required. They may be picked up in person at the Potter Center Box Office, 517.796.8600, from the Jackson Citizen Patriot office, 214 S. Jackson, Jackson, or from WKHM, 1700 Glenshire Drive, Jackson.
