Basketball teams heading to tournaments
Jackson Community College’s men’s and women’s basketball teams are heading to tournaments this week.
The Jets women’s team will head to Donaldson, Ind. on Wednesday for their first-round playoff game against the National Junior College Athletic Association District G tournament hosts, Ancilla College. The women have a record of 10-17 for the season and finished seventh in the Michigan Community College Athletic Conference’s Western Conference. They play at 7 p.m.
“This will give us some valuable post-season experience under our belt, while trying to win the region,” said women’s coach Andrew Hoaglin. “I think we stack up well against the competition in the opening two rounds. We will play hard and see where things shake out.”
The Jets men’s team will head to Grand Rapids on Wednesday to face the MCCAA District 8 men’s tournament host Grand Rapids Community College in the opening round at 7 p.m. The men’s team finished the season with a record of 12-15 for the season, sixth place in the MCCAA West.
“In only our second season of play, I am thrilled about the improvement in our program and the overall direction,” said men’s coach Steve Finamore. “Making the postseason is a huge step in our journey. We are building a great product. Grand Rapids will be a tough game; we split with them during the regular season, with both teams winning at home. Going to Grand Rapids will be a challenge, but our guys will give their best, they have all season long.”
