Sports notes from Jackson Community College...

  • JCC women’s volleyball recently signed Tecumseh High senior Chelsea M. Williams to the 2009-10 squad. Williams, a 5-foot 10-inch outside hitter, played for the Indians. She was named to the All Tournament team, and received awards for Unsung Hero, Jack of All Trades and Utility Player. She also received academic awards in math, English, and art, was named to the honor roll all four years, and is a member of the National Art Honor Society.

  • Jets volleyball players Krista Phillip and Jessica Koelewijn have both signed letters of intent to play volleyball with four-year institutions next season. Phillip, an outside hitter from Onsted, signed with Adrian College, a member of the MIAA conference, for the 2009 season. She played two years with the Jets and set JCC records for the total kills per game, total kills per season, career kills and kill percentage. She was named Second Team All-Conference in 2007, and was named a NJCAA National Player of the Week in 2007.

    Koelewijn middle from Napoleon, signed with Tiffin University, a Division II school in Tiffin, Ohio that competes in the GLIAC. Koelewijn played two years with the Jets and finished the 2008 season ranked 15th in the nation for blocks per game.

  • JCC sophomore Mike Olds, who has run with the Jets cross country team for two years, has signed a letter of intent with Spring Arbor University to run with the Cougars team in 2009. Olds, a graduate of Lumen Christi High School, will transfer to SAU. Olds has an 8K personal record of 27:43, and ran a 5K personal record in high school of 16:42.
