Jets baseball team champions of MCCAA
The Jackson Community College baseball team has sealed the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Championship with a sweep over Mott Community College on Monday.
The Jets finished their conference schedule with a 25-5 record. Their first place finish ensures a No. 1 seed going into the National Junior College Athletic Association Region XII tournament in Battle Creek.
“This championship is a huge accomplishment for the student-athletes. The players and coaches have worked hard since August to reach this point. Many hours of conditioning, off-season training and tough practices are paying off. They have represented Jackson Community College well on the field of play,” said head coach Rick Smith. “We look forward to playing in the regional tournament, and hope to move on and have a chance to represent JCC on the national stage in late May.”
They will start the tournament playing against the No. 8 seed, Macomb Community College at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 8. This has been a great season for the Jets so far. They had a 21-game winning streak, had a player named National Junior College Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week, and are hitting .353 as a team with 30 team home runs.
If the Jets are able to win the Region XII tournament, they will head to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II World Series in Enid, Oklahoma, on May 23-30.
