Golf teams to tee off at JCC
Jackson Community College will launch men’s and women’s golf teams in the 2009-10 academic year, officials announced today.
Men’s and women’s golf teams will participate in intercollegiate play during the 2010 spring college golf season, which runs from March through the beginning of May, said Steve Bloomfield, JCC athletic director and assistant dean of student life. Job postings are currently open for both men’s and women’s team coaches. After they are hired, coaches will begin recruiting players for next year.
“This provides an opportunity for community members to participate in intercollegiate golf,” Bloomfield said. “Golf is a huge sport in the county, one in which a lot of our local student athletes participate.”
JCC will offer six scholarships per team for players, and Bloomfield expects about eight members per team. The College participates in the National Junior College Athletic Association and the Michigan Community College Athletic Association.
