Potter Center unveils acts for 2009-2010

Music, comedy, drama and magic are in store in the 2009-2010 Potter Center season!

  • Sept. 30, 7:30 p.m., Menopause the Musical – hilarious all-female production celebrating “The Change.” Set in a department store where four women with seemingly nothing in common meet by chance at a lingerie sale. The all-female cast makes fun of their woeful hot flashes, forgetfulness, mood swings, wrinkles, night sweats and chocolate binges. A sisterhood is created between these diverse women as they realize that menopause is no longer The Silent Passage!

  • Oct. 10, 8 p.m., Boyz II Men – Grammy Award-winning rhythm, blues and soul singing group. Boyz II Men’s first album, 1991's "Cooleyhighharmony," was a smash, led by the great dance cut, "Motownphilly." Their ‘60s street harmony and hip-hop doo wop style serves as the foundation for the group’s exceptional vocals which, at times a cappella, meld the Boyz II Men into one living and golden entity.

  • Oct. 18, 7 p.m., Rave On - The Buddy Holly Tribute – A musical tribute to the 1950s icon, a huge influence on early rock’n’roll who was killed tragically in a plane crash in 1959. In this rock’n’roll tour-de-force, audiences will experience all the thrills of a Buddy Holly concert re-imagined, with such hits as “Peggy Sue,” “Raining in My Heart,” “It’s So Easy,” “That’ll Be the Day,” “True Love Ways,” “Oh Boy” and of course, “Rave On.”

  • Oct. 30, 8 p.m., In the Mood – 1940s Big Band Swing musical revue featuring the music of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Harry James, Erskin Hawkins, The Andrews Sisters, Frank Sinatra and more.

  • Nov. 22, 3 p.m., 100 Years of Broadway – A music-filled tribute to the Great White Way. 100 Years of Broadway recreates the greatest moments from the finest shows of the century featuring the actual stars of The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Jekyll & Hyde.

  • Dec. 9, 7:30 p.m., The Oak Ridge Boys Christmas – One of the longest-running groups in country music, the Oak Ridge Boys started life as a gospel quartet before gradually modernizing their style and moving into secular country-pop. Enjoy the veteran quartet as they present a holiday concert that is sure to please.

  • Jan. 23, 8 p.m., Amy Grant – Singer, songwriter Amy Grant has found success on both Christian contemporary and Top 40 music charts. She was won six Grammy Awards and 21 Gospel Music Association Dove Awards. Hits include “Baby Baby,” “The Next Time I Fall,” “House of Love,” “Every Heartbeat,” and “That’s What Love is For.”

  • Feb. 6, 2010, 8 p.m., Forever Motown – A non-stop, higher energy ride down memory lane featuring the music that made the Detroit record label famous. Enjoy hits of Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Gladys Knight and The Pips, and The Temptations.

  • Feb. 20, 2010, 8 p.m., Moscow Circus – With its long history, rich in tradition and a reputation for technical excellence, the Moscow Circus continues to win audiences with a delightful program of high-flying acrobats, the zany antics of the hilarious Russian clowns, and a phenomenal dog and his master act that will steal your heart away.

  • Feb. 27, 2010, 8 p.m., Southern Fried Chicks – An all-female comedy tour seen on CMT network. A combination of three very different women, all from the South, and their hilarious take on life, love and the pursuit of happiness. It’s where the “New South,” the “Old South,” and the “Deep South” come together for an evening of clean, clever story telling for every generation. The star of the show is Etta Mae … the headline comic on CMT’s new series, “CMT Center Stage.”

  • March 27, 2010, 8 p.m., Glenn Miller Orchestra – Enjoy the 19-member big band featuring original Miller favorites and some new modern selections. The repertoire exceeds 1,700 compositions which keeps the band popular with young and old.

  • April 9, 2010, 8 p.m., ABBA-Mania – A rock musical that takes you back to the disco era with one of the best pop bands in history. ABBAMANIA perform 21 of ABBA's hits, with all the costume changes, choreography, a live band, back-up singers and big studio sound.

  • April 17, 2010, 7:30 p.m. – Bill Blagg III A Night of Magic (Illusionist) – Bill Blagg has been called “magic’s best-kept secret” and combines illusion with comedy. Blagg is widely known for his interactive style of magic that allows him to connect with the audience.

Comedy Series

  • Oct. 23, 7:30 p.m., Nigerian Spam Scam Scam, a two-person multimedia comedy about actor Dean Cameron’s correspondence with an e-mail scammer. We’ve all gotten those e-mails from someone claiming to be the beneficiary of $30 million dollars but needs your help, but most just delete it immediately. Not Cameron, he started a nine-month correspondence with the scammer. Laugh at the hilarious relationship that develops, taken from actual letters and documents.

  • March 12, 2010, 7:30 p.m., Til Death Do Us Part: Late Nite Catechism 3, After teaching countless students about the saints, venial sins, limbo and more, Sister is now offering up hilarious lessons on the Sacraments of Marriage and the Last Rites, including her own wacky version of the Newlywed Game.

Kids Korner Series

  • January 30, 2010, 11 a.m. or 2 p.m., Charlotte’s Web. Theatreworks’ production based on E.B. White’s loving story of the friendship between a pig named Wilbur and a little gray spider named Charlotte.

  • May 1, 2010, 2 p.m., Wizard of Oz. Make fast friends with the most famous companions in all literature. Follow the yellow brick road on a magical musical journey and share Dorothy’s fantastic adventures as the stage is transformed into a world of the imagination.
