JCC alum to take over as hockey coach for Jets; tryouts planned
Jackson Community College is pleased to announce that Evan Stuart, a native of the Jackson Travel Hockey Program, will take over as head coach of the JCC Jets club hockey team this fall.
Evan Stuart’s hockey career began when he was just 4 years old, and he has been around the sport as a player or a coach ever since. He came up through the Jackson Travel Program and was coached by some of the most successful coaches in the state. Stuart was a part of a state championship and state runner-up team while in high school.
Stuart participated in hockey as a defenseman from 2004-2005 at JCC. As a player for JCC, he served as captain and led the defense in points. He graduated from JCC in 2006 and from Siena Heights University in 2007. This will be Stuart’s first season at the helm for the Jets Hockey program, but he is no stranger to coaching at the collegiate level. Stuart has been an assistant coach for JCC hockey since 2008.
Stuart is looking forward to approaching this season with a new mindset and plans to introduce an off-ice training program. The off-ice program will include strength, cardiovascular and plyometric training. He approaches the game with a defensive mindset. With the introduction of new offensive and defensive systems and a heightened emphasis on strength and physical fitness, Stuart has high hopes for the 2010-2011 Jets.
Tryouts for the JCC Jets hockey team will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13 at the Jackson Optimist Ice Arena. Players may participate in a conditioning skate at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8. Cost is $10 per session.
All student athletes are required to enroll in a minimum 12 semester credit hours and maintain a 2.0 grade point average. The Jackson Optimist Ice Arena is located at 1300 W. North St., Jackson.
