JCC @ LISD TECH to offer manufacturing degree

JCC @ LISD TECH to offer manufacturing degree Jackson Community College’s JCC @ LISD TECH Center in Lenawee County will partner with the LISD TECH Center to offer a new manufacturing associate degree program, manufacturing technology/machining.

Beginning in January, JCC @ LISD TECH will offer classes leading toward the manufacturing technology/machining degree. Machinists use machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines and grinders, to produce precision metal parts. The program provides both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience necessary to be successful in today’s manufacturing and machining environment.

“We are continuing to hear from our employers in the area, especially the Lenawee area, that they have jobs available and have, in essence, a shortage of skilled-trades workers,” said Rebekah Woods, JCC executive dean of instruction. “This new collaborative program between the LISD and JCC will help our students to further develop the skills needed in today’s workplace.”

Students enrolled in LISD TECH Center’s advanced manufacturing program may articulate credit to JCC when they enroll in the associate degree program. Classes will be offered at both LISD TECH and JCC @ LISD TECH centers.

JCC’s winter semester begins Jan. 9. Registration is currently underway. Courses to be offered in winter will include:

  •  MFG 105 Blueprint Reading, Wednesdays beginning Jan. 18.
  • MFG 172 CNC Theory, Wednesdays beginning Jan. 18.
