October 5th, 2006 For immediate release ‘Little Mary Sunshine’ brightens Potter Center stageTake a trip back in time when the world was much simpler as Jackson Community College presents “Little Mary Sunshine,” a musical, the last two weekends in October in Baughman Theatre, Potter Center. “Little Mary Sunshine,” by Rick Besoyan, tells the story of the title character, Mary Potts, an inn proprietress in the Colorado Mountains. The musical gently pokes fun at old-time favorites with style and flair, a world where “good meant good, bad meant bad, virtue was all and justice always triumphed.” The plot is a bit of everything, Colorado Rangers, a stalwart captain, a lovely Mary, a chorus of lively school girls and a villainous Indian. Its musical score features 24 songs in all, with thundering choruses, schmaltzy waltzes and lilting duets. It is directed by Sandy DiCesare, coordinator of educational theatre at JCC, and features cast members from the college and the community. Productions will be held at 8 p.m. Oct. 20, 21, 27, and 28, and at 3 p.m. Oct. 22 and 29. Tickets are $8 for students and senior citizens, $10 for adults. A special student preview night will be held at 8 p.m. Oct. 19, with tickets only $5 for students. Tickets are available at the Potter Center Box Office, 796-8600, or online at www.jccmi.edu/events. |
