Torme Sings Torme: The next generation of great jazz

Jackson Community College will welcome Steve March Tormé, son of the legendary jazz singer Mel Tormé, to the Potter Center stage at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, for one evening only as “Tormé Sings Tormé.”

Whether warming up a romantic tune with his silky-smooth voice or unleashing some blazing scat, Steve Tormè will have your remembering the famous voice of his father but leave you happy to be in the here and now! Enjoy timeless hits like “Lulu’s Back in Town” and “Mountain Greenery.” The songs are interspersed with family photos as well as classic and some never before seen Tormé video clips. Steve will be accompanied by a big band conducted by Steve Rawlins, performing many original musical arrangements by Marty Paich and by Mel himself. “The Essence of Love,” his latest CD, was called “an impressive, mature statement by a vocalist who sounds as if he was born to sing standards” by The San Diego Union-Tribune.

Tickets range from $18 to $24 and may be purchased by calling either the Potter Center Ticket Office at 517.796.8600, or online at www.jccmi.edu/events.
