Diamond Rio to bring country sound to Potter Center stage

Country music greats Diamond Rio will take to the Potter Center stage at Jackson Community College at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 18.

Diamond Rio has been sweeping the nation since 1991 with hit singles such as “Meet in the Middle,” “The Beautiful Mess,” “I Believe,” and “One More Day.” Diamond Rio has sold more than 10 million records, with 25 Top 10 country singles. Electric guitarist Jimmy Olander, bass player and baritone harmony singer Dana Williams, keyboardist Dan Truman, mandolinist and tenor singer Gene Johnson, lead singer Marty Roe and drummer Brian Prout make up Diamond Rio. These talented male artists have helped re-define the “young country” movement.

In 1991 the group recorded their first hit “Meet in the Middle” which made it to the No. 1 spot. Throughout the decade, the hits continued with: “Norma Jean Riley,” “In a Week or Two,” “Love a Little Stronger,” “Walkin’ Away” and “How Your Love Makes Me Feel.” Their chart successes earned four CMA awards for Vocal Group of the Year. Diamond Rio was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 1998.

Within the past few years Diamond Rio’s music has been in the spotlight because of certain nationwide events. Their hit song “One More Day” let to an 11th Grammy nomination and a seventh Gold Record. This song grabbed lots of attention after the death of the racing legend Dale Earnhardt in February 2001. Later in the year, following the events of Sept. 11, 2001, people also felt comfort from this song. With Diamond Rio’s first seven albums certified gold or platinum, the band scored a No.1 hit with “Beautiful Mess” in 2002, followed by the No. 1 hit “I Believe” in 2003. They released “Greatest Hits, Vol. 2” in 2006.

Tickets for Diamond Rio range from $32 to $38 and may be purchased by calling either the Potter Center Ticket Office at 517-796-8600, or online at www.jccmi.edu/events.
