Big Read continues with Southern Breakfast, free film presentation of ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’

Jackson’s Big Read month continues with a special appearance by actress Mary Badham at a Southern Breakfast at the Ella Sharp Museum, 9 a.m. March 17.

Mary Badham portrayed Jean Louise “Scout” Finch in the 1962 film version of “To Kill a Mockingbird,” and was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award at the age of 10. Today, Badham is an art restorer, is married to a school teacher and the mother of two. She also travels a great deal recalling her experiences making “To Kill a Mockingbird” while expounding on the book’s message of tolerance and compassion.

Enjoy a southern menu for breakfast and the opportunity to hear and ask questions of Badham. Cost is $10 per person, please RSVP to 517.768.7023.

Following the Southern Breakfast at 12:30 p.m. March 17 at the Michigan Theatre, in downtown Jackson, the film version of “To Kill a Mockingbird” will be presented, with Mary Badham attending. There is no charge for this presentation.

Jackson Community College and the Jackson Literacy Coalition are pleased to present the Big Read, a communitywide effort to encourage people to get reading. This year’s special event features a full month of activities all centered on the classic work by Harper Lee, “To Kill a Mockingbird.” For a full schedule of events, please visit the web site www.jacksonreads.com.
