Rose Run set for big changes in 2008

The 38th Annual Rose Run will be held Saturday, June 14. There will be several exciting changes to this year’s race.

Orthopaedic Rehab Specialists, P.C. will be the title sponsor, building on their longstanding support of running in the Jackson community.

The 10-kilometer run is being replaced by a hybrid 5-mile run that will take place on the campus of JCC and utilize both roads and the JCC cross country courses.  The hybrid run has the best of both worlds, the fun and excitement of a road race and the nostalgia and natural beauty of running on trails.

Another exciting feature will be the three-member team relay race.  This is a 5-mile run over the same course as the five-mile hybrid race, with each runner completing approximately 1.7 miles.  There will be nine divisions: male and female under 50, 50 to 100 years total age, over 100 years and the same for co-ed teams.  Participants in the relay carry a baton which must be passed from runner to runner at the exchange points.

This year’s race will also be a fundraiser for the JCC cross country team.  JCC resumed its athletic program in 2007 and cross country coach Brian Olsen looks forward to this fund raising opportunity.

As in the past, the Rose Run will include a 5-kilometer run, and the previous 4-mile walk will become a 5-kilometer walk.  The Rose Walk will again be sponsored by Jackson Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine.
