Academic Advising

Returning Students

Choosing the right courses to meet your educational goals can be challenging. To serve you best, we encourage you to schedule an appointment with the academic advisor who specializes in your program of study. By doing so, your valuable time and resources will be used wisely without a wait. To schedule an appointment, please contact Jackson Central Campus Student Services at 517.796.8425. If you are attending our Hillsdale, JCC @ LISD TECH or Jackson Flight Center locations, please contact their offices directly for advising times.

Academic advising helps develop connections between students, faculty and staff to build supportive relationships. Academic advisors provide students with appropriate information, make referrals to campus resources, and support students in achieving their goals.

Faculty advisors are best qualified to discuss career opportunities in their disciplines. They usually have the clearest understanding of their department's curriculum and may be most knowledgeable about what is required of students to be successful in their fields. In addition, JCC provides extensive career and employment exploration services.

Advising continues throughout your JCC experience. Talk to your faculty academic advisors prior to registering for classes in subsequent semesters. You are responsible for determining that the courses for which you registered are applicable to your degree programs. JCC advisors help you make these choices.

Transfer Students

If you plan to transfer, you should request transfer program information from the four-year universities and colleges that you are considering. Even if it is your first semester at JCC, talk with an advisor at your intended transfer institution to be sure you are taking the right courses for the program of your choice.
