Office of Residence Life

Campus View

Welcome from the Director of Residence Life...

Greetings and welcome to residence life!  I realize that selecting a college is a big decision and once you do that, deciding on where to live is the next big decision.  Know that the staff and I are excited that you have selected to live with us.  We are prepared to provide opportunities for you to  live with us and develop as an independent person, find moments and opportunities to laugh, go to class and learn with fellow residents and we hope that you also make life-long friends

It is exciting to embark upon our second year with campus housing at Jackson Community College.  Even more exciting, is when looking at the “backyard” we can see the construction of a second residence hall.

With the construction and growth, I take pause and share with you that living on campus is more than living in an apartment, it is an “experience” that is for most students not comparable to living off campus or with parents.

It is a time where you learn skills that are:

  • Transferable to the workplace or relationships (confrontation, compromise, listening)
  • Beneficial in your personal development (cleaning, doing laundry, dishes)
  • Develop yourself as an individual and define “who am I” (living or meeting people different than you, budgeting, making personal choices)
  • And finally, it is a place where you have the opportunity to be involved, engage in late night conversations, be challenged by fellow residents and have staff members available 24/7/365 to help when needed.

I also appreciate you as a resident, as you will be part of a group that continues to define what it means to be a residential student at JCC.  And, that definition includes things such as being a student, student leader, athlete, friend, student employee, program participant; but most important… a JCC community member.

We look forward to working with you!

Sincerely,

April Sue Platt
