What Financial Assistance is available through CSS?

There is a federally funded grant called Special Populations. To be considered, you must meet the requirements of one of the eligible populations described below.

Who is Eligible?

Students who already have at least 10 credits towards their program of study or is already enrolled in a second admittance program (nursing, DMS, etc.)

Only students who have a of a 2.0 grade point average or higher

No developmental education courses will be funded.

AND a student who is identified as one of the following, and meet program and income guidelines:

  • Single Parent - a parent who (1) is unmarried (i.e. divorced, widowed, never married, or legally separated) and (2) has either custody or joint custody of a minor child.
  • Displaced Homemaker - a homemaker, unemployed or underemployed who (1) has been dependent on the income of a relative but is no longer supported by such income, or (2) because of divorce, separation, death or disability of a spouse, must prepare for paid employment or (3) has been, but is no longer, supported by such income.
  • Non-Traditional Training & Employment - women and men who wish to seek employment in occupations, which traditionally have been under-represented by their gender.
  • Students With a Disability - any student with a documented disability.
  • Economically Disadvantaged - any student receiving a federal or state grant.
  • LEP - any student with limited English proficiency.

What does it Cover?

It may cover: tuition, fees, books, uniforms, child care, and mileage.

How do I apply?

First, complete a Free Federal Financial Aid (PELL) Form (FAFSA) and submit it to the Federal Government.

Second, register for classes.

Third, fill out an application for the Special Populations Grant. Submit proof of your income with the application for Special Populations to the Center for Student Success Office, Walker Hall Room 125.

Requirements for the Grant

  • Must complete Career Assessment
  • Be enrolled in an approved occupational degree or certificate program (not a transfer program)
  • Completed a Pell (FAFSA) Application
  • Provided proof of current household income

Print and fill out the pages of the application. Then turn in the completed form to the office of The Center for Student Success, with current proof of household income, to main campus Walker Hall Room 125, Hillsdale or Lenawee sites.
