Canena Adams is a very busy woman. She is a wife, mother and student at JCC. Adam also works part-time for Martinizing Cleaners and is an active member of her church. With so much going on, Adams still finds the time to give back to the community. Adams is collecting coats and winter clothing for distribution locally through her church Greater Bible Way Temple Church of Jackson. Pastor Ira Combs Jr. is district elder for the church. Combs is also a candidate for seat on the board of trustees for JCC. Julie Plassman is one of three family partners who own and manage Martinizing Cleaners. “We’re original owners. The first store was opened in Albion in 1958,” said Plassman. Martinizing Cleaners has participated in a coat drive for the past seven years. Plassman hopes the partnership with the church will become an annual affair. For those students and faculty members interested in donating, Martinizing Cleaners of Jackson, at 3136 E. Michigan Ave will accept all gently used winter outerwear, there are also locations in Albion, and Lansing. “We clean it free of charge, as well as do minor repairs if needed,” said Plassman. |
