Trustee? What’s that? By Stefanie Loveberry Staff Writer
Do you know that there are a select few group of people who determine everything that happens to this school? They are the people who control what happens with your money, what new buildings we will be adding, and if we should get new programs like a mileage and sports.
Not many students know what I’m talking about. So here it is in black and white, the board of trustees. They are the ones who hold your life while you go to JCC. They make all the big decisions about your college experience.
Josh Taylor, majoring in aviation, doesn’t know what the board of trustees is. When asked if he was planning on voting he said “not really.” He doesn’t even know who the trustees are, or who wants to run as a new trustee.
Other students were asked similar questions and gave very similar answers. Some students knew Dr. Rod Riggs, a candidate for the trustee board, only because they saw him changing all his signs from saying “re-elect” to “elect.”
Lots of students just don’t care because they don’t know. The trustees need to get out there, and be seen by the people they make decisions for. The students would be more apt to care if the people who want to run their school are being seen by said students.
