A Jackson Community College instructor running for Congress? It's true. Eric Crosley, a part-time writing instructor, plans to run as a Democratic candidate for the Eighth U.S. Congressional District of Michigan.

The 153 votes are in and counted for the leaders of Jackson Community College's Student Parliament. That may not seem like many votes, when the college has 3,853 students on campus.

The holiday season is a time of giving. It is a time to appreciate the "little things" that are taken for granted: shelter, clothing, food, family and friends.

Thom Pampuch has been playing percussion most of his young life. "I was banging on my mother's pots and pans in the kitchen when I was 8," said the 20-year-old Jackson Community College student.

Eighteen and nowhere to go? A bar in Jackson has opened its doors on Friday nights to those 18 and older. The Rocket's College Night runs from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. every Friday.

An open exchange on terrorism kicked off a series of discussions on global issues Nov. 21 at Jackson Community College. More than a dozen people attended the talk, which also focused on weapons of mass destruction, causes of terrorism and the war in Iraq.

Mermaids were dancing in Jackson on Nov. 4. The eight mythical, undersea beings were part of "The Underwater Embrace," a Studio Deeplyart presentation in the Art 634 building.

Five candidates filed applications for two Student Parliament offices Nov. 4. Brandon Goyings, Parliament vice-president, and Daniel Campbell are competing for the office of president.

Friday will bring the first Gaming Night to Jackson Community College. The tournament will use PlayStation 2 and Xbox formats, and the game will be "Madden 06."

It will soon be time for Jackson Community College students to vote for Student Parliament members. Voting will take place Monday, Nov. 21, and Tuesday, Nov. 22, for parliament president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer.

The Drama Club is back at Jackson Community College after a 10-year absence. The club is considered a way to involve more students in theater and for fun.

The Aviation Technology program at Jackson Community College is still flying, despite budget problems earlier this year.

Getting a bachelor's degree is almost as convenient as a drive-through, a cell phone or an e-mail, thanks to the 3+1 deal at Jackson Community College.
