Spring classes can be a useful tool

April 17 marks the first day to register for the spring semester at Jackson Community College. Students have the opportunity to redeem a bad grade, gain credits they missed out on, or to get ahead.
JCC's spring semester is 12 weeks long and begins May 15. Classes are offered as a full session or as accelerated smaller sessions for students who wish to take two sets of classes. The second session begins June 27, and both sessions conclude Aug. 8.
Classes are offered at all satellite locations and online.
The spring session is an option for all students, who should weigh the benefits against the cost. Each credit hour is $88.50, and there is an $18 semester fee. Online classes require an extra $100 technology fee.
"There is no financial aid offered specifically for the spring semester," said Keithous Hall, a student worker for records and registration. "But if you didn't go full time (during the fall 2005 and winter 2006 semesters) there may be some funds left over for you to go during the spring."
Retaking a class that you had previously failed will not erase the bad grade on your transcript but could still be beneficial. Passing the class the second time will override the negative effects on your grade point average.
English, business and natural science are just a few of the subjects offered, with a combined total of 140 class options on campus.
