Superbown XLII goes down to the last second

Super Bowl XLII was said to be the biggest upset in NFL history.  I don’t usually watch football, but this year I changed my mind. I decided Super Bowl XLII was the game to watch.  An undefeated team, the New England Patriots, versus a team that no one seemed to have hope for, the New York Giants. This was going to be interesting.

Super Bowl XLII started out pretty even. With great defense on both ends, the first quarter came to a close with New York ahead 3-0. The second quarter consisted of great offense and defense, with New England scoring a touchdown and pulling ahead while holding New York at 3.

The half time show started and while “Free Falling” by Tom Petty played in the background, I thought that this game was going to take a turn somewhere.  Something had to happen! The score was low and we needed the football players to pump it up and make the crowd cheer!

The game continued and the third quarter brought nothing. Neither team could seem to make it work.  But the fourth quarter is what made everyone stop what they were doing and watch football.

With 11 minutes and five seconds to go, David Tyree caught a 5 yard touch down pass from Eli Manning to make the score 10-7, New York Giants ahead.  Wow! I did not expect this to happen.  The Giants were pulling ahead against an undefeated team!

With hope, the Giants held on as long as they could, hoping to somehow pull ahead even more.  But in the last three minutes of the game, Tom Brady threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Randy Moss, upping the intensity and the score, 10-14, New England Patriots. Now it was getting interesting! The Patriots brought themselves out of their no scoring streak and scored when they needed it the most.

Burning down the clock, with under a minute left, the New York Giants had the ball.  With the clock at 35 seconds, Manning threw the winning touchdown to Plaxico Burress making the score 17-14, the Giants leading.  That was game! In my eyes, there was no going back for the Patriots.

Without much hope, the New England Patriots did their best to make a comeback, but failed to do so.  With one second left on the clock, the field was filled with camera crews, football players, and coaches wanting to celebrate the victory of the team that no one had hope for.  The last hike of the season went off with a bang, parts of the crowd going wild while others sat in silence wondering how this could have happened.

Like I mentioned earlier, I usually do not watch football, but I have to admit that this game was amazing.  Not only did the New York Giants, the underdogs, the team that no one had hope for… take the championship, they beat an undefeated team in the Super Bowl and that is something that will be remembered forever in the history of NFL.
