Veteran JCC Trustee Charles E. Anderson is leaving his post, he announced Feb. 11.
Anderson spent 14 years with the Jackson Community College board and is 76 years old. President Daniel J. Phelan praised Anderson for all of his hard work saying, “You have made us a better institution, and me a better president, and I thank you for that.”
The board also announced that high school students' parents should be expecting a letter in their mailboxes. The letter will hopefully educate them enough to persuade the parents the reasons that their children should choose a community college. JCC will also be inviting high scholars to kick off the school's 80th anniversary that will treat the future students to offerings at the campus.
Dubbed "Community Day," the 80th anniversary party will be held on Sunday, Feb. 24 in Atkinson Hall at the main campus. Among the events, there will be food provided at various stations, a chance to fill out applications for JCC, information about housing opportunities, a nursing demonstration, and other happenings.
Also at last Monday's meeting, President Phelan outlined his five-year plan. Some of Phelan's goals are to install more lighting in and around the parking lots and build additional sidewalks to improve pedestrian traffic flow. Marquees, or advertisement signs, will eventually be installed at Emmons and Hague entrances.
Phelan also hopes to plant prairie grasses, which would reduce the labor, machine deterioration, and gasoline consumption of mowing the current lawns.
