Welcome!
Thank you for your interest in the Early Childhood Development and
Education Program at Jackson Community College. Since 1999, we
have been working hard to create professional training and degree
opportunities for the people who work with and care for young children and
their families in our community. We're glad you're considering joining
us!
We would like you to know too, that JCC recognizes that some students enter
college with proficiencies that warrant college credit. For example,
you may have numerous training and workshop experiences, as well as life
experiences in the early care and education field. Students may
request "credit by examination" to demonstrate skills and knowledge in
courses offered by the college, or "portfolio development" to earn credit
for these experiences.
Along with the potential for completing the requirements to obtain a CDA certificate, an Associates Degree and/or a Skills Credential, students can use the early childhood courses to meet continuing professional development requirements for the CDA or continuing education credit for teachers who have a Professional Teaching certificate. Students interested in obtaining a Bachelors Degree in child development can transfer the entire Associate of Applied Science - Early Childhood Development and Education degree into the Bachelor of Arts - Child Development at Siena Heights University. We are communicating now with other colleges and universities about similar articulations of courses and degrees.
We look forward to working with you ensuring quality programs and services for young children and their families.
