Jean Dennerll

Jean Dennerll

Jean Dennerll, B.S., CMA, loves seeing students progress through JCC's medical program. Dennerll, assistant professor of allied health, is coordinator of the medical assistant, transcriptionist and insurance biller programs.

"One of my most rewarding experiences as a teacher is watching students evolve through their education here, then continue on and get a job in medical assisting," Dennerll notes. "I have the unique opportunity to see them start and go through the whole process, and finally complete the goal they have set."

Dennerll has been teaching for 28 years. She began working as a medical assistant 36 years ago at Mercy Hospital in Jackson. Teaching future medical assistants has been most rewarding.

"Many of the students interested in medical assisting may have little experience with higher education, or did not have such a good experience in high school," Dennerll said. "They come back as adult learners with a new motivation and do excellent in the medical assistant program."

After students complete the program, they go to work in many of the doctor's offices, clinics and hospitals in the region. "I run into JCC graduates all the time working out in the field," Dennerll said.
