Partnership Information
In July 2000, Spring Arbor University (SAU) and Jackson Community College (JCC) entered into a formal partnership for students seeking a bachelor's degree and certification to teach in either elementary, middle or high school.
Some of the advantages of this partnership are:
- A JCC student can transfer up to 80 semester hours credit to SAU.
- An already existing agreement allows JCC students to take up to two courses at SAU while they are a JCC student (at JCC rates).
- A consortium agreement allows a student to be dually enrolled at SAU and JCC and, if qualified, receive full-time financial aid.
- General education courses and major/minor courses are continuously being aligned between SAU and JCC to provide equivalent course work.
- SAU offers academic advising through an office provided by JCC on its campus.
- Joint programs-such as Teacher Education Volunteer Fair, Education Forum, Portfolio Showcase, Issues and Trends, Student Organization events-provide for an integrated college experience over all 4 years.
- Collaborative efforts-such as "Preparing Tomorrow's Science and Math Teachers: The Community College Response", a project of Phi Theta Kappa, funded by the National Science Foundation.
Student Comments
The education partnership between SAU and JCC has enhanced my experience as a teacher education student.
"by allowing me to know ahead of time what classes I would need and when to take them."
"It has given me the opportunity to experience a real university before I actually was enrolled full-time. It takes some of the fear away."
"It saves you money and the professors at both places are great and really care about your success."
"It brings great people together-sharing the same dream of becoming an educator."
"It is such a smooth transition."
"The relationships with SAU and JCC students have been some of the best I've had."
"It is a wonderful place to learn where the profs take the time to help you, both at JCC and SAU. I rarely had to figure "hard" things out when transferring. I like the convenience of having an SAU office on the JCC campus. I love JCC and now SAU!"
"As a post B.A. student, SAU has allowed me the opportunity to fulfill my goals in an environment which is supportive."
