Who We Are...

JCISD is one of fifty-seven intermediate school districts in Michigan--established by legislative action in 1962 to assist local community school districts in the delivery of education to their communities based on local school district needs. The intent of that action was to establish regional districts which would share information between the Michigan Department of Education and local districts.

JCISD is a regional school district which provides educational services to residents and local school districts within our assigned boundaries. These educational services include: training with staff and community members; training with students in career and technical education, special education, adult education, and through special programs such as math and science, early childhood, gifted and talented; assistance with technology/media plans and services; workforce development and administrative and financial services.

JCISD works with twelve K-12 districts and three charter districts. The JCISD has a collaborative relationship with Jackson Community College, Spring Arbor College, several regional health and human service agencies, county government, and various business and industrial groups.

Pre-Fall Greetings from EMU!

If you have students interested in teacher certification at EMU, please advise them to see an EMU advisor early on.

For regular ELEMENTARY education, we welcome your students to ELEMENTARY GROUP ADVISING at their earliest convenience. The group advising dates and times are available at http://www.emich.edu/coe/advising/elemgradv.html. This group session is critical to student success - and often can help students coordinate efforts to meet requirements at both schools. Of course, you are welcome to attend one of these sessions too

For regular SECONDARY education (except business/technology, music, art, or physical education), we welcome your students to SECONDARY GROUP ADVISING at their earliest convenience. The group advising dates and times are available at http://www.emich.edu/coe/advising/secgradv.html. This group session is critical to student success - and often can help students coordinate efforts to meet requirements at both schools. Of course, you are welcome to attend one of these sessions too!

For SPECIAL EDUCATION, individualized advising is provided in 128 Porter Building (734-487-3300) with faculty advisors.

Physical education, business/technology, art, and music all have individualized advising through their departments. Advisor contact information is available at http://www.emich.edu/coe/advising/advisors2005-2006.html.

Also, we have MACRAO information that may help you advise students who are transferring to EMU. Please refer to http://www.emich.edu/coe/advising/documents/macrao.pdf.

Winter 2006 registration will begin at the end of October. If you have students who want to transfer to EMU for Winter 2006, please advise them to apply to EMU (see http://www.emich.edu/admissions/apply/howapply.html) by October so that they can maximize their class choices.

Please keep in mind that EMU's teacher preparation program has specific admission requirements. They are: 1) 56 credit hours completed, 2) at least 12 of 56 must come from EMU, 3) 2.50 GPA AT EMU (overall), 4) 2.50 GPA AT EMU in the teaching major, 5) passing scores on all parts of the MTTC Basic Skills test, 6) "C" or higher grades in specific courses, and 7) moral turpitude statement. There are several implications for advising students who are transferring to EMU. If you have any question about those implications, please contact me directly. I would be happy to speak with you.

Best wishes for a productive fall semester!
