Once you have been accepted at your transfer University, check the College of Education application deadline. For Example:

College of Education Application Timetable for Michigan State University

For students desiring to enter in Fall Semester 2002:
Mar 15, 2002: MSU Application Deadline
Mar 15, 2002: College of Education Application Deadline
June 1, 2002: On-line essays must be complete

For students desiring to enter in Spring Semester 2003 (January, 2003):
September 1, 2002: MSU Application Deadline
November 1, 2002: College of Education Application Deadline
November 15, 2002: On-line essays must be complete

For students desiring to enter in Summer Semester 2003:
February 1, 2003: MSU Application Deadline
March 15, 2003: College of Education Application Deadline
April 1, 2003: On-line essays must be complete

  • Decide as soon as possible, when and where you will transfer.
  • Check often, the requirements for your transfer School of Education. You must apply to the college or university and then to the School of Education. Check the transfer School of Education application date and requirements.
  • Save pictures, lesson plans, documented experiences related to teaching for your professional portfolio.
  • Ask "Great Teachers" their best tips in classroom management.
  • Gain as much experience in real classrooms with great teachers as often as possible.
  • Take advantage of opportunities to speak and present to others.
  • Attend the Education forums at JCC-each forum offers important information and a time to ask questions, and meet other future teachers.
  • If you have a chance to attend a Teacher Conference be sure to take advantage of the opportunity.
  • Money saving tip: When buying or signing up for teacher resources or conferences as ask if there is a "student" rate.
  • Push yourself to experience different schools, diverse populations, and uncomfortable "content" information.
  • Attend a school board meeting
  • Keep a notebook of all the best classroom management techniques you see. Be sure to look for good ideas.
  • Bring to mind often "why" you are entering the teaching profession.
  • Check the teaching "job" needs in your area. Special Education, Math, Science and Technology are in big demand in Michigan.
  • Getting a teaching degree is a complex road map for each person. Read, communicate and connect with others for the best possible route.
