Office of the President Dr. Daniel J. Phelan Printer-friendly versionDr. Daniel J. Phelan has served as President of Jackson Community College in Jackson, Michigan since early 2001. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Education/Higher Education Administration from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa. He earned a Master of Business Administration Degree from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration and an Associate in Arts degree from Mount St. Clare College in Clinton, Iowa. Both degrees were awarded with honors. Previously, Dr. Phelan served as the President of Southeastern Community College in West Burlington, Iowa. Additionally, he has served as the Executive Vice President of Educational and Student services at Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, and as Executive Director of the Business and Industry Institute at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas. He also served as the Director of Training & Economic Development, Director of Community Education & Business Training, Chairman of the Business & Industry Section, and the Coordinator for Business & Management at North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City, Iowa. And finally, Dr. Phelan served as the Director of Admissions and as the Development Officer at Mount St. Clare College in Clinton, Iowa. He has taught various courses in higher education administration, computing, business, leadership, and management at several colleges and universities at both graduate and undergraduate levels. The author of numerous professional articles, monographs and essays, Dr. Phelan has been honored for his work in higher education and community service. He has served on the Board of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) in Washington, D.C., as well as the AACC and the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) Board Committee on Public Policy/Government Relations. He serves as President of the Board of the Community College National Center for Community Engagement (CCNCCE) in Mesa, AZ.; Vice President of the Board for the Continuous Quality Improvement Project (CQIN) organization; President the Council of North Central Two-Year Colleges (CNCTYC); and serves as a Consultant-Evaluator for the Program to Evaluate and Advance Quality (PEAQ), and Academic Quality Improvement Project reviewer (AQIP) colleges and universities for the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, Higher Learning Commission (NCA-HLC) in Chicago, IL. Dr. Phelan also serves as the Immediate Past President of the President’s Committee, and Immediate Past President of the Board of the Michigan Community College Association (MCCA) board in Lansing, MI. He also serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Applied Research in the Community College. Dr. Phelan is active in the St. John’s Catholic Church, a member of the Jackson Symphony Board of Directors, the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors; the Jackson Community Foundation Board of Directors, and the Jackson Area United Way Board of Directors. |
