JCC right prescription for medical career

Dr. Jon Lake has quite a medical history - both his father and grandfather were doctors before him.

Lake is an alumnus of Jackson Community College, where he attended in 1970 following graduation from what was then Parkside High School. From JCC he transferred on to Albion College, where he received his bachelor’s degree in biology. He completed further study at Mercy College of Detroit to become a physician’s assistant.

His father was an obstetrician/gynecologist for 35 years, and his grandfather was a family doctor. After 15 years as a physician’s assistant, Lake followed in their footsteps and went on medical school at the Wayne State School of Medicine, and continued his residency in family practice at the University of Michigan Medical Center. Today he has a family practice in Jackson. He also serves on the board of Foote Health System. He and his wife, Donna, have two daughters in college.

“I like knowing everything that is going on with my patients,” Lake said. “I enjoy interacting with and helping people.”

JCC helped give him a good start toward his future career plans. “I truly believe the education is as good as any place you can go. It also allowed me to stay home and grow up a bit more, before moving out,” Lake said. “The professors were caring, and there’s something to be said for being able to get in touch with a professor when you need to know what they are looking for.”
