Transfer smooth from JCC to SAU for Jackson student

When Jason Vasaris graduates from Spring Arbor University this spring, he will be thankful for the convenience of Jackson's educational institutions.

Vasaris started at JCC after graduating from Jackson Christian. He earned an Associate of General Studies degree, completing the MACRAO Agreement – the Michigan Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers – which ensures that a student who completes basic general education requirements can transfer to any of two dozen colleges and universities throughout Michigan.

"I haven't had any trouble with any of my classes counting for credit at Spring Arbor," Vasaris said. "I thought JCC was a good track to start on, when you do the MACRAO program you can transfer to any number of Michigan schools."

Spring Arbor has an office in McDivitt Hall with personnel on the JCC campus. It was this connection that first got Vasaris interested in transferring.

Vasaris is majoring in accounting and recently completed an income tax internship at the firm of Willis & Jurasek. He hopes to sit for the Certified Public Accountant exam this summer.

A Jackson area resident, having JCC and a four-year institution like Spring Arbor nearby also made getting his bachelor's degree convenient.

"It's really convenient to have Spring Arbor, which is a four-year institution, just 20 minutes from JCC. The transfer, and the transition, was no trouble at all."
