University of Michigan- Dearborn (3-0)

10/20/2009

Three goals in three minutes for JCC broke open a scoreless game in the second half and it was looking grim midway through the second half despite some very good scoring chances.  Finally, sophomore captain Hannah Hall punched in a beautiful goal after battling past several defenders to get the shot away.  Just over one minute later, Hall found Renee Morrison who buried a great shot away. Hall would widen the margin even further with another brilliant goal less than one minute later when Andi Cochran fed her a pass in the center of the field where she eluded an oncoming goalkeeper and slipped the ball just inside the post.

JCC improves to 9-6-2 and closes out the season at Olivet on Saturday morning at 10:00 am.

Schoolcraft College (1-3)

10/18/2009

The Lady Jets took on the 9th ranked team in the nation at home on Sunday and despite a very well played hard fought effort, they came away with a 3-1 loss.  Things looked good early for the home team as Brie Augustine fed Renee Morrison in front of the goal where the Jets leading scored made a nifty move to beat the keeper for the opening goal.  The lead would last for about ten minutes when Schoolcraft's leading scorer would get her own goal, tying it up with a perfect shot from the top of the box.

Halftime 1-1.  The second half saw the Jets apply some early pressure to the Ocelots defensive end, but an unfortunate goal against the run of play saw JCC behind 2-1.  Another goal after a defensive miscue put the Jets behind 3-1 for good, although they were able to create some good chances later in the game.

"Schoolcraft is the standard we use to judge where we are as a program.  They've been a national power for two decades, and we are just getting started at it all.  This was the first game against them where I felt we actually competed with a chance to win the game, and that is good progress," said Coach Andy Hosmer. "We're making strides and doing some great things.  I'm really looking forward to playing them next year."

JCC drops to 8-6-2 with two games remaining and will take on the University of Michigan Dearborn on Tuesday in Trenton.

Eastern Michigan University Club (1-0)

10/15/2009

On a cold, wet night on an uneven bumpy field against the Eagles of Eastern Michigan University, it was Jessica Penny knocking home the lone goal of the match.  Penny was assisted by Sarah Deluca to give the visiting Jets their fifth consecutive victory.  Courtney Lewis recorded the shut-out in goal making several saves on shots from distance.

JCC improves to 8-5-2 and will take on Schoolcraft at home on Sunday at noon.

Indiana Tech JV (4-1)

10/12/2009

The Jets hosted the Warriors of Indiana Tech and came away with a comfortable 4-1 win just four days after defeating them 6-0 down in Fort Wayne.  Ashely Krotkiewicz opened the scoring for JCC, calmly slotting the ball past a rushing Wariors keeper twelve minutes into the game.  Three minutes later it was Renee Morrison finding the back of the net for her team leading 9th goal of the season.  Alanna Tippin would score the third goal of the game and her first of the season when Holly Goheen made a great effort play keeping a ball alive in the box and getting her in front.

The final Jets goal was a missile off the foot of midfielder Jessica Penny.

JCC improves to 7-5-2 and will take on 11th ranked Schoolcraft at home on Sunday at 11:00 am.

College of DuPage (2-0)

10/11/2009

The Jets women's soccer team scored a very big 2-0 victory on Sunday at home against the nationally recognized powerhouse Chappareles from the College of DuPage in Illinois.  DuPage came into the game with a 12-2 record, scoring an average of 6 goals per game and giving up just 10 goals total on the season for a 0.7 goals against average.  They had been shut-out only once prior to today, but the Jets defense was up to the challenge and keeper courtney Lewis posted her third consecutive clean sheet behind a tremendous team effort.

Tarah Diem continued the great play she's displayed in the past couple of games, notching the eventual game winning goal with 7 minutes remaining in the first half when Malerie Schatzle slipped a brilliant ball through flat Chapparel defense and found her running into the space. "It was an example for tremendous vision on the part of Malerie to see the gap in the line and the opportunity to play though, and of Tarah making the right run at the right place to get through at the right time."  said head coach Andy Hosmer.

A potential turning point came minutes later when a foul in the box awarded the visitors a penalty kick.  But, the shot went wide and kept the momentum in favor of the home team.  "That was critical, we hadn't given them many good looks at all and a goal there would have been somewhat deflating for us and given them a tremendous boost."

The insurance goal would come with 28 minutes remaining in the match when freshman Andi Cochran, playing as a forward, drove the front of the goal and hot her head on a nice cross from sophomore midfielder Hannah Hall. "Hannah had gotten forward into the attack and battled hard with a defender fight on the end-line to get the cross off.  She floated it nicely over the keeper's hands and Andi did a great job of getting open and finishing the ball." said Hosmer.

JCC improves to 6-5-2 overall and will face the reserves of Indiana Tech at home on Monday.

Indiana Tech JV (6-0)

10/9/2009

The offense was still on track for the women's soccer team Thursday night down in Fort Wayne, IN as the Jets downed the reserves form Indiana Tech 6-0.  Tarah Diem connected for the first goal just over 30 seconds into the game when Renee Morrison found her with a great ball through the defense.  Diem would return the favor, assisting Morrison a few minutes later.  Diem the game with 1 goal and 2 assists and was a real spark plug for the Jets offense throughout the game.  "She had a Midas Touch, everything she did was great and led to solid scoring opportunities either for herself or others."

Rounding out the scoring was Shelby Jordan with her first two collegiate goals, Renee Morrison with two goals (8 on the season to lead the team), and Amanda Hulett with one.  Assists went to Kayla Minix with 1, Megan Campbell with 1, Morrison with 1 and Diem with 2.

JCC moves back up to .500 at 5-5-2 and will take on a very strong opponent in the college of DuPage on Sunday at home.

Olivet College JV (10-0)

10/6/2009

The Jets offense exploded for 10 goals and cruised to an easy victory over the Olivet College reserves on a rainy afternoon at JCC on Tuesday.

Sophomore forward Brie Augustine let the scoring with a natural hat trick, putting all three of her goals away during the first half of play before switching to a full back position for the second half.  Malerie Schatzle added two goals and the team's leading scored put away two as well.  Hannah Hall and Jessica Penny each added a goal to finish out the scoring.  Assists went to Morrison, Hall, Penny, Augustine, Schatzle and Megan Campbell.  Neala Kelly and Courtney Lewis each put in a half at the goal, but neither had to make a save for the shut out.

The Jets move to 4-5-2 on the season and travel down to Ft. Wayne to take on the reserves for Indiana Tech on Thursday evening.

CC of Rhode Island (0-6)

10/4/2009

The Jets took on the 4th ranked team in the nation on Sunday, and came away with an 0-6 loss.  Despite the score, coach Andy Hosmer remained positive about the team's performance, saying, "It looks bad (the score). Looking at it realistically though, they are a legit top 5 team and we played right with them most of the match.  We made a defensive error that led to their first goal, but we learned from it immediately and did not make the same mistake again.  they were awarded three penalty kicks and scored on all three of them, which is something I have never seen before.  And, we created good scoring opportunities and were just unlucky in those attempts (including hitting the  crossbar twice).  It was not like the game was played entirely in our end.  In fact, most it was played in the middle of the field and they were just better at putting away their chances than we were.  Overall, a great challenge for us, and it showed us where we need to improve to get to the next level."

JCC drops to 3-5-2 on the season and will play at home vs. Olivet (JV) on Tuesday.

Siena Heights (JV) (1-2)

9/30/2009

The Jets out-shot the Saints 18-4, but poor finishing led to a disappointing result.  The Jets lone goal came late in the second half from Jessica Box after Andi Cochran collected a corner kick from Renee Morrison and dropped the ball back for the shot from 30 yards out.

Elgin Community College (1-1)

9/27/2009

The Jets Women's soccer team dominated play, possession and scoring chances for 90 minutes on Sunday at home against the visiting Spartans from Elgin Community College, but came away with a disappointing 1-1 tie.  34 minutes into the game a direct kick from long range found its way over the out-stretched fingertips of Jets keeper Courtney Lewis to put Elgin ahead, but not for long.  Indeed, on the ensuing kick-off, the Jets got the ball quickly into Spartan territory, where Jessica Penny attempted a shot on goal that glanced wide.  Fortunately for JCC, freshman midfielder Andi Cochran was pressing to the center of the goal and got her foot on the ball, burying it behind the Elgin keeper and equalizing for JCC just 15 seconds after the went behind.

The rest of the game was essentially played in front of the Elgin keeper, but the Jets couldn't seem to buy a goal and had to settle for the tie.  "We did some things really, really well today," said coach Andy Hosmer, " We forced them to sit back and defend for 90 minutes. They did a good job of it, and we did a poor job of putting the ball between the posts.  Other than that critical thing though, we played well.  Shelby Jordan and Andi Cochran did a great job today working hard and keeping plays alive for us."

Oakton Community College (2-0)

9/19/2009

The Jets continued their winning ways, lifting the season record to .500 as they took on and defeated Oakton Community College in the Invitational Tournament championship game on Saturday

Shantell Green put the Jets ahead for good as she knocked in a rebounded shot by Tarah Diem 18 minutes into the contest.  Renee Morrison added a dagger midway through the second half when she blasted home a direct kick from 35 yards out that evaded the outstretched fingers of the Oakton keeper and snuck under the crossbar.  Goalkeeper Courtney Lewis made just two saves to preserve her first collegiate shut-out behind a tight defensive team effort.

JCC moves to 3-3-1 on the season.

Cincinnati State (2-1)

9/13/2009

The Lady Jets made history on Sunday as the picked up their first ever Region 12 victory with a 2-1 defeat of the visiting Surge of Cincinnati State.

In a complete reversal of this year's previous meeting, this time it was JCC striking early.  Shantell Green headed home a beautiful free kick from 40 yards out by Renee Morrison, just 1:27 into the game. Jessica Penny scored what would turn out to be the game winner in the 7th minute .  Sophomore midfielder Hannah Hall found Penny with a great centering pass and she was able to elude a defender and put the ball behind the Surge keeper.  The Jets defense took over from there, stifling the Surge for nearly the rest of the match.  A slight miscue on a corner kick with under 6 minutes remaining allowed a Surge player to poke the ball past Jets keeper Courtney Lewis to ruin the shut-out bid.

JCC improves to 1-3-1 overall and will travel to Central Michigan University to play on Tuesday.

Adrian College (0-1)

9/5/2009

The Adrian Bulldogs got the lone goal of the contest with 18 minutes remaining in the first half.  Their keeper made it stand up during a second half barrage by the Jets offense as she turned away several dangerous shots and was saved once by the post as well.

"Baby steps, I guess," said head coach Andy Hosmer.  "We played very physical tonight, which is a move in the right direction, something we haven't been doing well enough to this point.  Every time we improve in one of these little areas, the game gets easier for us."

The Jets drop to 0-3-1 on the season and will take on Cincinnati State in a rematch game on Sunday at home at 3:00.

Schoolcraft College (0-5)Jessica Penny

9/5/2009

The Lady Jets Soccer team dropped a tough 5-0 decision to the nationally ranked Ocelots of Schoolcraft on Saturday. Keeper Courtney Lewis made several outstanding early saves to keep the hosts off the board, and eventually the Jets settled in and played well.  Unfortunately, a flukey goal off a throw-in put Schoolcraft up a goal with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half and a defensive miscue allowed another player to get in behind and finish before halftime.

The second half was much better played, but despite the improvement in physical and tactical play from the Jets, the Ocelots were able to capitalize three more times.  "Ultimately, we are learning a lot as we go.  We have such a difficult start to our season, with three of our first four games against the strongest teams on the schedule.  It has been hard to gain any offensive rhythm.  Individually, there was some tremendous play from just about everyone today.  As we learn to put it together into a team dynamic, we'll really be a strong side.  Until then, we keep working hard towards that goal and we move on." said Head Coach Andy Hosmer.

JCC will face Adrian College away this Thursday.

vs. Cincinnati State (0-3)

8/29/2009

The Jets got off to a very sluggish start after the long drive to Cincinnati and the Surge to quick advantage, heading home a goal just 1:15 into the match.  The visiting Jets settled down a bit after that, but still struggled to find continuity and two more goals just a minute apart 38 minutes into the game effectively put the nail in the coffin.  "We were not ready to play and they struck early, which hurt.  However, the real damage was done late in the half.  With the three goal lead they were able to sit back and defend for the final 45 minutes, despite our dominant possession and play during that stretch," said Coach Hosmer. "We settled into an offensive rhythm n the second half and controlled all of the play, but their bunkered defense kept us away from the goal and we had to settle for shots from distance, which were not effective."  The Lady Jets travel to Schoolcraft College on Saturday.

vs. Albion College (1-1)

8/23/2009

The Jets tied the Britons of Albion College in a game this past Sunday.  Renee' Morrison got JCC on the board first.  She had an incredible free kick that bent over the wall and ripped inside the far upper corner.  Despite out-possessing and out-chancing Albion throughout most of the second half, the Britons managed to equalize on a penalty kick.  Brie Augustine nearly got the game winner with just over one minute remaining when she broke through several defenders and hit a hard shot to the near post, but it sailed inches wide.  JCC Women's Soccer team continues their schedule travelling to Cincinnati State on Saturday.

First Annual Kick-Off

8/2/2009

The Lady Jets kicked off their season on Sunday with an intersquad scrimmage on their home field.  The game was a great chance for family members and the community  to come out and see the talent that coaches Hosmer and Morse have recruited for the 2009 season.  With 16 freshmen rounding out the roster of 22 student-athletes, this was a great first chance for these athletes to play together and showcase the skill level of the 2009 Lady Jets with style.  The athletes were divided into two teams: Maroon (coached by Morse) and White (coached by Hosmer). The game ended in a 2-2 tie.
