Financial Aid Types

The Financial Aid Office administers federal, state, institutional and private sources of financial support. You may qualify for one or more of these four types of financial aid.

  • Grant or scholarship - gift assistance you do not have to repay.
  • Loan - borrowed money you must repay with interest.
  • Work-study - part-time employment on or off campus.

    Dozens of private scholarships are awarded at JCC based on criteria set up by the sponsoring organizations and donors. For more information click on JCC Foundation Scholarships.

Local Scholarships and Funding Sources

Scholarship application deadlines vary by the awarding institution. Make sure you look at each application closely to determine all of it requirements and to assure you meet the deadline.

  • Jackson County Community Foundation - more information external site
    The Jackson Community Foundation Scholarship Program offers a wide variety of scholarship funds. In 2009 over $170,000 in awards were made.
  • Hillsdale County Community Foundation - more information external site
    The Hillsdale County Community Foundation offers over 70 scholarships to area students. Scholarship awards vary in size and number, and are available for both graduating high school seniors and non-traditional students.
  • Lenawee County Community Foundation - more information external site
    Scholarship Funds support education by providing scholarships. Scholarships can support nonprofit preschool through high school education, or further the education of graduates of a particular high school, students in a specified field of study, students meeting specific criteria, or students enrolled in a chosen institution.
  • The Jackson Legacy Scholarship - more information external site
    Jackson Legacy Program will provide scholarships for most Jackson County high school graduates planning to attend Jackson Community College, Baker College of Jackson and Spring Arbor University. If community service and grade point average requirements are met, a scholarship for the second year will also be available. Please note that scholarship awards and their continuation are dependent on the sufficiency of available funding.
  • Sigmund Foundation Scholarship - more information external site
    The Sigmund Foundation Scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to Jackson and Lenawee County graduating high school seniors, students already enrolled in college as full or part-time students, or residents interested in furthering their educations. The scholarship of up to $5,000 can be renewed through the application process. Funds are restricted to tuition, books and related fees. Although not limited to any specific field of study, priority will be given to students majoring in the medical and aviation fields.
  • John George Student Loan Fund - more information
    John George, the founder of the Jackson Citizen Patriot, orginate a trust fund for loaning students money to attend universities, colleges and community colleges supported by the State of Michigan, i.e. state schools. The John George Student Loan Fund will loan qualified students up to $5,000.00 per year at a 2% interest rate to attend state supported schools.

    The Datatel Scholars Foundation (DSF), an independent tax-exempt foundation, awards scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students attending eligible Datatel client institutions.
  • Jack Kent Cooke Foundation - more information
    The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship Program each year awards approximately 50 scholarships to students attending community colleges or two-year institutions in the US and planning to transfer to four-year institutions. Each award covers a portion of educational expenses, including tuition, living expenses, required fees, and books for the final two to three years of the baccalaureate degree.

    OFA proudly administers a variety of sponsored scholarships – including the CharityWorks Scholars Program (for young people who have aged out of the foster care system in the Washington DC metropolitan area), and the Foster Students Education Foundation and Tangled Hearts Scholarships for outstanding students across the country.

    Get Assistance with finding scholarships and completing applications by visiting the Jackson College Access Center conveniently located at the Jackson Crossing Mall, in the Sears wing. Walk-ins are welcome or call to make an appointment at 517-990-0671.
