Financial Aid Financial Aid TypesJohn George Student Loan FundJohn George, the founder of the Jackson Citizen Patriot, originated a trust fund for loaning students money to attend universities, colleges and community colleges supported by the State of Michigan, i.e. state schools. The John George Student Loan Fund will loan qualified students up to $5,000.00 per year at a 2 percent interest rate to attend state-supported schools. Eligibility to receive a loan is not determined by financial need but students must complete at least 12 hours per semester and maintain a 2.25 grade point average in college. Recipients must be Jackson County, Michigan residents and graduates of Jackson County, Michigan high schools. Applications are available Oct. 1 through April 30, and may be downloaded from the web site, www.johngeorge.org, or by visiting the office at 145 S. Jackson Street, Jackson, Michigan (corner of South Jackson and Cortland streets). Applications must be received no later than May 1; those that are received after May 1 will be considered on a funds-available basis. Inquiries may be directed to Mrs. Karen Friend at 517.782.8126.
