Don't let your gender keep you from a great career
Each year more and more people break tradition when it comes to their futures. Choose an academic program based on your interests, abilities and needs – not sex-role stereotyping. A gender equity, or non-traditional, career is defined as a career traditionally populated by one sex. A gender equity student is a female student in a predominantly male study option or a male student in a predominantly female study option.
Consider this: 12 of the 20 fastest growing careers today are in health services, where the number of non-traditional males employed is increasing rapidly. After all, who ever said that only women can care for others or provide child care, or only men can weld or service cars?
Choosing a non-traditional program has been a great experience
for these students who are currently enrolled!
“The instructors are a great resource. Everyone cares about the success of the other. I feel more men should take nursing to take care of the community.”
“I work in the automotive field. Since most parts on today's vehicles are electric, I thought it would be interesting to understand and learn how to work on them. If anything should happen to our jobs in the automotive business, this will give me another career to pursue. In today's society women are more accepted in any field of study. It's not like years ago when women were steered to go into traditional fields like nursing, teaching, etc.”
Assistance and financial aid is available. Certain restrictions may apply. Stop by the Center for Student Success for more details, Bert Walker Hall, Room 125 or any JCC location.
