Sara Stevens

2001 - 2002 Winner

SaraNominated by Aurelie Seward

Sara Stevens has worked for two years as a student computer consultant with the Information Technology department. Sara Stevens has distinguished herself among her peers and her supervisors due to her excellent work ethic and quality performance.

Quality of Work: We have come to expect the best from Sara. For example: we ask for documentation of her activities on a project and we receive daily, time monitored reports that any department on campus could use as an example.

Initiative: Asks if supervisors need extra assistance and approaches other InfoTech areas, e.g., software, hardware, Solution Center, to see if extra help is needed. During break times, she is always willing to try a new schedule to be the most help for special projects that may arise at the last minute. While working on various projects, Sara periodically looks at the processes on her own and brings us improvements to help her and other consultants in the future.

Professionalism: Sara always presents a professional attitude to our clients whether in person or on the phone. Sara has been an excellent team leader within the student computer consultants organizing groups to get high quality work done in a timely manner.

Uniqueness of Contribution: Last year we decided to form an Assistive Technology team in order to assist the Learning Support Services (Christine Reiff) and JCC in bringing appropriate technologies to campus that would help students with disabilities. Sara provided the structure and direction for this team and although she would be the first to give the team all the credit, her leadership was an initial impetus to the success the team now experiences. We can now support 20 specialty pieces of software and hardware for students with disabilities ranging from vision and hearing impairments to students with mobility limitations. This collaboration between Information Technology and Learning Support Services has been quite a benefit to the college and Sara was a catalyst for its success.

At the same time, Sara was providing specialized support for the Dahlem Center. Being separated from the main campus, the Dahlem Center was in a special situation of using computer technology, and not having adequate access to support. Sara took on the challenge of providing the support one-on-one at their site. She contacted them biweekly, went on site whenever requested, and brought Dahlem Center problems to the attention to the technicians and followed through to resolutions. During this time, Sara kept diligent records of her contact for the possibility of expanding this idea to other centers. This collaboration provided InfoTech insight on specific Dahlem Center issues so that Information Technology could provide them with better technology solutions.
