| Information Technology Amanda Fox2002 - 2003 Nominee
Amanda (Mandy) Fox has worked for two years as a student computer consultant with the Information Technology (InfoTech) department at Jackson Community College. Her initiative and special contributions to this department while she excels academically and completes an internship with the Jackson Police Department distinguishes her as a model for student employment. She tackles the most daunting projects, adjusts her schedule to meets the needs of staff requesting assistance and shares her talent freely. Reliability: Mandy’s attendance record is exemplary and if all employees were as consistently on time and present as Mandy is, then attendance would become a non-issue. Her excellent work ethic and high standards for quality performance are appreciated daily. Quality of Work: Mandy is attentive to details, meets deadlines by planning in advance, and we can rely on her to check back and ensure that the work she accomplishes is what is needed / wanted. These behaviors not only benefit us directly but also indirectly Mandy’s behavior acts as a model for other student employee’s who struggle in this area. Initiative: As co-manager of the largest open computer lab on campus, Mandy has improved the environment by addressing various processes, suggesting alternatives, and implementing needed changes. Mandy also regularly offers assistance to other InfoTech areas, e.g., Software, Solution Center, and regularly trains newer consultants for special projects in other areas of InfoTech. Due to her initiative in seeking out work and learning opportunities when she started employment with us, we can assign Mandy to nearly any area in InfoTech and she can excel. While working on projects and in special areas, she looks at the processes on her own and brings us improvements to help her and other consultants in the future. Mandy has taken on many tasks requiring her to lead a group of student employees and present a quality product. And Mandy has been one student employee ready to change her personal schedule in order to participate in a week-end scheduled work experience. Her priority is learning and it shows. Professionalism: The professional attitude Mandy presents to our clients whether in person or on the phone has been a model for all of our student employees. Uniqueness of Contribution: In the absence of an assistant for the Student Consultant Coordinator, Mandy took charge of numerous scheduling, clerical, and student team coordination tasks. She worked closely with the coordinator to ensure that systems and support continued and that only a minimal amount of overtime became needed. When an assistant was finally hired, Mandy then worked closely with that person as well as continuing to assist the coordinator. During this time, Mandy’s assistance was instrumental in preserving the coordinator’s sanity as well as the efficiency of student employment in Information Technology. She adjusted her schedule, without impacting her studies, and acted as an amazing support system through a difficult time. Thank you Mandy. |
