Series Looks at Air War in the Pacific

Jackson Community
College's Center for Continuing Education announces the next episode in
the continuing series World War II Revisited, with this month's topic
"Pacific Island, Philippines, Air War in the Pacific, 1943-44," coming
up Wednesday, September 12, at 6 p.m. in the George E. Potter Center.
This month's event focuses on the War in the Pacific, with
speakers representing three different experiences.
Speaking will be Fred Vinton, 4th Marine Regiment,
captured on Corregidor, 3 ½ years as POW in the Philippines; Antonio
Virlanveva, who was a boy in Philippines during the Japanese occupation
and liberation; and, Russell McLogan, veteran of the 6th
Infantry Division that liberated the Philippines and author of "Boy
Soldier, Coming of Age During WWII."
There will be military items on display relating to the
Philippines, including uniforms of people who served there.
Refreshments will be served.
Following the trend set by Tom Brokaw in his book, The Greatest
Generation, JCC's Center for Continuing Education has developed this
monthly series related to World War II.
The cost of individual sessions is $10; cost for the series, which
continues monthly through December, is $39.
Upcoming schedule of topics include:
October 10, Battle of the Bulge, Rhineland, 1944; November 14, Iwo
Jima, Okinawa; December 12, V-E Day, V-J Day, Atomic Bomb, aftermath of
the war.
Milton Davis, a veteran of Vietnam who manages a traveling military
museum for the Ann Arbor VFW Post, coordinates programs.
