Poet to Share His Works
November 15, 1-2:30
p.m., Bert Walker Hall 212
Jackson's
own Bill E. Worthey will share his poetry at Jackson Community
College's next Writers in Person series event, on Thursday,
November 15, from 1-2:30 p.m. in Room 212, Bert Walker Hall.
Worthey has published a collection of his own poetry, "Through
the Eyes of Time," reflecting his personal outlook on life.
Ann Green, professor of Literature and Language Arts at JCC, said
his work is both "very spiritual and down to earth at the same time."
Paula
Ashley-Harris, professor of Literature and Language Arts, said "I like
the variety . Nature poems, family poems, prayers, religious ones,
including parables, and then social criticism poems.
Worthey handles them all with ease and grace."
Worthey has
resided in Jackson for more than 30 years, and retired from the Michigan
Department of Corrections.
He served two years in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, and attended
Jackson Community College.
Since his retirement he has focused on writing, through both poetry
and short stories.
The
Writers in Person series provides an opportunity for JCC students to meet,
hear and interact with writers actively pursuing their craft.
The public is invited.
The next event is in February when the Ann Arbor Youth Poetry Slam
Team will return to JCC's campus.
The series is sponsored by the Language, Literature and Arts
Department with a grant from the Jackson Community College Foundation.
