Notes Passing of Former V.P. Allaire George
Jackson Community College officials were saddened today by news of
the passing of Allaire George, former vice president for academic
affairs at JCC. She passed away on
Nov. 30 in Missouri while serving at the Unity School for Religious
Studies.
George was dedicated in her career as an educator and in the many
community causes she supported. She came to JCC in December 1981 as Dean
of Arts and Science. In August 1984, she was named Vice President for
Academic Affairs, a position she held until May 1994. She presented the
JCC Commencement address in 1993, with a speech entitled "Own Your
Life." She left JCC to begin a career in the ministry with Unity Church.
"Allaire was the kind of person who tried to bring out the best
in the people that she worked with. She encouraged people to continue to
reach and grow, and she facilitated personal growth whenever possible in
herself and others," said Diane Fenby, JCC's director of human
resources. "She was genuinely concerned about students and the people
she worked with."
George served Jackson County in many ways, including the United
Way, Girl Scouts, Family and Children's Aid, and on the Board of
Directors of Florence Crittenton Services. She co-founded and directed
Jackson County's Career Prep program. She was also a recipient of the
Susan B. Anthony Award, presented by the Jackson Y Center Inc. Women's
Program.
A memorial service is planned in the Silent Unity Chapel at Unity
Village, Missouri, on Thursday, Dec. 12, at 3:30 p.m.
